If we told you the professional umpires at the Blue Jays games are booed at every game, you would think nothing of it, right?.
What if we told you, a little league mom in the U.S tossed a slice of pizza at an umpire after leaving a game that was played between teams of 11 and 12 year olds. Police arrested that Little League mom and charged her with two counts of misdemeanor assault and she could face up to a year in jail and a $2000 fine.
True story.
Physical assaults is obviously rare, but verbal assaults are quite common towards umpires, referees and officials. A lot of umpires are volunteers, people just helping out. This sort of behaviour makes it hard to find individuals to be volunteers. This only hurts the Sport Experience for everyone, especially the kids.
This is apparently a trend of more parents erupting at kids' game, sometimes violently. Tougher stance with parents outburst from youth sports directors might be needed. Let's remember that these are just kids.
If you've ever witnessed an outburst from a parent or any bad behaviour at a youth sports game, I'd like to hear from you. Write a comment about this post.
